I feel great today!
My clothes don't fit anymore because I am losing weight, and I just donated my 10th pint of blood!
Weeee!!!! (then again, maybe I am just a bit light-headed because of the blood loss...)

It's possible that your clothes don't fit BECAUSE you've lost so much blood...

Nah.

Did you donate ten pints all at once?

Was it all YOUR blood?

I've always kind of wanted to donate somebody else's blood.

I just gave plasma.  I'd donate whole blood, but the poor college kid in me constanly clamors for the extra fifty bucks a week.

Does it count as 'donating' if you get paid?

...I wish there was a place around here that I could sell my blood to. Hmm.

That's why I said "gave plasma" and "donate blood."  I just happen to get a stipend for "giving."  Still a little dodgy, but better than "donate."  I'd say "sell," but that makes me feel like a blood whore.

I'd be happy being a blood whore.

What's involved in doing it, and do you just do it at the local Red Cross or something?

Plasma is different than standard blood donation.  They don't pay you for whole blood.  When you give plasma, it's a biomedical type business that pays you for it and uses it for research and medicinal purposes of some sort.  So you aren't directly saving someone's life like you would be with whole blood, but you're still doing some good and getting some spending cash for it.  I make $45 or $50 a week, depending where I'm donating/selling.

You can do it twice a week, as opposed to every six (eight?) weeks with whole blood, because they only take the plasma and you get your red cells back.

Oh.  Hmm.

I guess I've got to see if I can find a place to give it a try.  A little extra money would be nice.
