Just got the (video) iPod.
Fun stuff.
Nice way to listen to music, obviously, but more than that, the video feature is cool, if just novel
But... great way to take stuff around and connect to TVs.

Just put in the A/V rca cable and connect... press play.

Random note... apple really annoys me with this.
In an effort to try to make people buy their "official" a/v cables, they switched the positioning around.
background: you put a three signal rca plug into the headphone jack, like on some cheaper miniDV cams. Then you plug the yellow/red/white cords into the TV.
The Catch: They switched video to red for some inexplicably bizarre reason.
Audio is yellow and white (not sure what's L/R yet, heh).

I hate proprietary DRM stuff, too.  This' why I've got a pocket PC that works as a PMP, and if I were in the market for one, I'd get a third-party one.

Eh, the iPod's nice. I agree, but it works well, so no harm done.
Though... itunes is a pain.
funny that the songs are totally copy protected... unless you use imovie to convert them

Speaking of proprietary stuff...

I went to a camera store one day on the weekend and asked if they had any shotgun microphones in stock. They said yes. They showed me the mic and sure enough it was a shotgun mic and right in my budget. I asked if it was accepted by standard camera inputs.

Nope. Uses a proprietary Sony cable.

Agh!

Ask for an XLR Shotgun Mic.

You'll thank me later on.
