I doubt most of us have the facilities to be able to do this one but its the college student version of the Academy Awards. You have to be able to submit your film on 16mm or 35mm film upon request. But, its got every category and is really prestigious.

I know someone deleted this contest earlier because registration was over but it has been extended.

The Vinny Awards is a fun one minute video contest where you discuss something in science that is helping solve a global problem.  Other than that you can be as creative as you want.  Also, they have mentors that can help you come up with topics and stuff.

You can even do it in Spanish!

Last years prizes were really good.  My friend and I won first place and $600.

http://vinny.pcs.cnu.edu/

The website says:
Named after Leonardo da Vinci, The VinnyTM Awards is a contest to produce a one minute video that explains how Science, Technology, Engineering and/or Mathematics (STEM) is being used or can be used to help solve a global problem. Examples of such problems include pollution or food distribution. Teams of students work with a teacher and a mentor to research a global problem and ways that STEM is or can be used to help solve the problem. You might want to pick a problem that has an impact on your community or is of concern to you and people you know. The team then brainstorms about how to explain the problem and solution to 4th graders with a video, and then produces the video. The team submits the video and other materials. Sometime in the Spring of 2005, CNU will announce the winners and award prizes.
